Kettering Ohio History
Born in a farmhouse in Ohio, he founded the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, where he invented some of the most important engines and devices as an engineer. In 1920, Wilbur Rayner had the vision to redefine laundry service in Dayton, Ohio, and bring quality and comfort to many people's homes. After Kettering developed a better ignition and start system for cars while working for NCR, he organized the Dayton Engineering Labs Company (Delco) with others who invested money in the development of the car during his time at NCR. While he was developing better ignition and starting systems for cars on the NC research and development side, he organized a "day care" for his children and others, into which he could put money. Kettering left NCR in 1909 and founded the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (Delco) with Deeds, which he incorporated. In 1925, the research laboratory was moved to Detroit, Michigan, and Kettering lived with his wife in a hotel in the city until his retirement. In 1925, the Dayton, Ohio, research center of the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (Delco) was moved to Michigan. Ketterter and his wife lived in hotels in both cities until they retired in 1926.
The Wright Cycle Company continues to preserve the Wright Brothers legacy, and the Centerville - Washington Township Historical Society runs a museum on Kettering's life and work, his wife's, and the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company Museum in the Hoover Block, which is now home to the Kettering Museum of History and Heritage.
Huffman's Prairie is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and is a popular destination for hiking, camping and retreats on its retreat grounds. The facility has become the largest U.S. Air Force base in Ohio, which has since been combined into Wright-Patterson Air National Guard Base, located in Dayton, the county's second largest city. Dayton has developed as a tourist destination for many years due to its proximity to the Ohio River. He worked as a telephone operator for two years, then returned to Ohio State and graduated at the age of 20 - 8. After graduation, Kettering was hired as an assistant secretary in the Dayton office of a national cash register. He left the state registry at the end of 1909 and founded the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company, better known as DELCO. The Dayton Engineering Research and Development Company, which was under the auspices of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio Department of Commerce.
The founders bought what is now called Kettering, Ohio, for $1,000 for cemetery purposes and for the young community.
Once they realized the value of these historical objects and structures, they began discussions on how best to preserve and encourage public viewing, education and appreciation of these treasures. The end result of this meeting was the formation of the Kettering Historical Society, a group of people who would accept Dayton's story.
This is my final thesis on the history of Antioch College and is colored by the city jewel, but it also touches on other aspects of the city's history, such as its history as an industrial center.
