Customer Reviews

Lives up to the expectations of fine dining

Oakwood club offers amazing steak and other familiar steak house/american favorites. However, the menu does not just stick to the typical cuisine and includes some unique seafood dishes. Service is top notch and the servers have always been very responsive to the needs of the table. The atmosphere is dark and intimate and is not set up for children but ...that is fine. This is a grown-up place. So, leave the kids at home and enjoy a wonderful dinner out at The Oakwood Club.

Pros: Blue Cheese Olive Martini

Cons: Can be a long wait but no problem if you enjoy a cocktails

Unbelieveably bad treatment

My wife and I went to the Oakwood Club 1/7/06. There was a 2 hourwat - we were happy to sit at the bar. Two ladies arrived 20 minutes after we did and sat at the bar. After 90 minutes, the ladies ( regulars / friends of the owner) were seated - we weren't. I paid my tab, expressed my dissatisfaction to the bartender and left. The bartender apologized but no effort was made to correct the situation. I had heard stories of mistreatment of "non-regulars" but we had never experienced the problem - possibly because we had been with regulars on other occaisions. If a restaurant is not going to take reservations they should make every effort to ensure customers are taken in order. I will tell everyone I know how I was treated. Their reputation for treating non-regulars in a shoddy manner is well deserved.

Not unless you are from Oakwood

This establishment is typical of a place that forgot what made them good. They survive off their following, which is very good. Unfortunately their following and service are the only mentionables. The wait on the weekends is terrible. The cost of the food would be about right if it was as good as everyone says. The only items on the menu that rank are the prime rib and a few select appetizers. Dayton has a hard time keeping good restaurants and has lost better ones than this.

Pros: atmosphere, service, prime rib

Cons: all but prime rib, wait, no weekend reservatio
